Al-Taj News – In a region beset by wars and crises, Jordan is dealing with simultaneous pressures along its northern, western, and eastern borders, ranging from drug smuggling and security developments in southern Syria, to the King Hussein Bridge crisis and overcrowding in correctional centers, culminating in the risks of the repercussions of the escalation in the West Bank extending to the Jordanian border.
Minister of Interior Mazen Al-Fraya revealed daily and direct security cooperation with the Syrian side to confront smuggling operations, stressing that Jordan is participating in training Syrian security agencies in areas including border management.
Al-Fraya said in an interview with Al Jazeera that the occupancy rate of prisons in Jordan has exceeded 200% of their capacity, while he spoke of an increase in drug smuggling from Israel into the Kingdom using drones.
Regarding the West Bank, Al-Fraya stressed that Jordan is prepared for any scenario imposed by developments on the ground, and said that displacement is a “serious matter.”
